Cars Repo – Buying At Governement Auctions

October 7th, 2009 by Steve Brodie

If you are looking to buy cars, you are going to get a much better deal in buying repossessed vehicles from government auctions. Repossessed trucks, SUVs, Cars, etc are sold at auctions much less than original price, around 40 to 70% less!

The trucks, SUVs, etc that are now under the control of the government are there because their previous owners were either involved in criminal events or their money was illegally owned. Until the case has been settled a public garage holds the repossessed vehicles. If the case does not settle in the previous owners favor, it cannot be reclaimed and the vehicle goes to auction.

The private auction houses are the ones to open the bidding to the public on the governments behalf. Members of the public then have the right to purchase these cars at very discounted prices.

Now its finding all of the auctions that can be the tricky bit. Just walking up to the police station and asking them for the whereabouts of the seized car auctions is not possible. You would need to do some research and make visits to the auction houses if you are not wanting to use an online searching guide.

You can use your yellow pages to find numbers of all the auction houses as unfortunately they do not usually advertise the seized vehicle sales. Once you find numbers, youll have to ask which ones handle auctions of government cars.

Visit their office after you find out the ones that do.

Look through the lists of the repossessed vehicles that are being auctioned off once you are there. That way you can shorten the list to the vehicles that you are wanting to take a look at. Youll want to get the most information out of your visit.

Ask them what kinds of documents you will require presenting. And other specifics like the amount of money you would need to have on you if you did win any bids as well as any dates and times of future auctions. Try attending an auction simply as an observer if you have the time.

Watching how the bidding process works before actually bidding gives you an idea of how it works.

Finally, restraint is a good thing to practice. Auctions especially can have a highly competitive mood, creating a lot of adrenaline within participants. Dont let the fever take you, if the price goes above your budget stop there, you can always bid on another vehicle!

If you take a look at our site you can see a link to a guide with all US auctions available of seized cars including all auction times and dates.

The guide will tell you about offline and online auctions.
